Tattoo School


Overview

To provide top quality and professional education in the field of tattooing and to train and prepare students for a successful future in the industry in accordance with all state laws and regulations.

Course Objectives

Students will practice, understand and learn tattooing in accordance with the rules and regulations of the state of Oregon. By the end of this course students will be proficient in tattoo equipment and history, industry health and safety standards and business practices associated with tattooing. We are here to prepare students with all the necessary knowledge and experience to take the state of Oregon exams and become a licensed tattoo artist and maintain a successful career in the tattoo industry.

Course Prerequisites

Students must be 18 years or older
Students must have a high school diploma or GED
Students must be drug free
Students must have a general knowledge of art and art portfolio to present

Course Description

Area 51’s Tattoo program is divided into twelve courses; each adhering to the mandatory minimum State required hours for each subject, totaling 360 total program hours. Courses are as follows, in chronological order:

Drawing Design & Placement (10 hours)
Business Operations (20 hours)
Laws & Rules (20 hours)
Equipment & Supplies (20 hours)
Needle Building & Classification (20 hours)
Tattoo Machines (20 hours)
Color Theory & Pigments (10 hours)
Skin Types, Diseases & Conditions (20 hours)
Client services (20 hours)
Safety, Sterility & Cross-Contamination (40 hours)
Discretionary-Self Promotion & Advertising (10 hours)
Practical Application-Tattoo Procedures (150 hours)
*Students are required to complete all lab and theory courses prior to doing any practical tattoo application on clients.
